Mrs. Beverly Ortez Shorter

Beverly Jean Ortez- Shorter August 18, 1948 – October 4, 2024 Beverly Jean Ortez- Shorter was born on August 18, 1948 in Buffalo, New York, to Anita and Vanderbelt Ortez who have preceded her in death. She was the third of five siblings and is now united with Evelyn Tyron and Pamela Barton. Beverly is survived by her sister Dolores Everett and brother, Phillip Hurtt who both live in Louisville, Kentucky and a aunt Idna Barr in Buffalo, NY. Beverly is survived by her husband Donald Shorter her stepdaughter Donna Gibson her two sons Eron Stewart Lindsey and Eric Donvan Shorter. Her legacy lives on through eight cherished grandchildren Marcus Gibison, Cyrus Gibson, Morgan Gibson, Jada Lindsey, Gabriel Lindsey Ivyana Lindsey, Enzo Shorter and Zoey Shorter. From an early age Beverly accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 23. A lifelong learner and pioneer Beverly graduated from East High School. and pursued a degree in Early Childhood Education from Buffalo State University. She latter pursued a Mechanical Drafting Technology associate degree and worked at Eastman Kodak in the Research Department at the Hawkeye Plant. She may have made history at Kodak being African American, Puerto Rican and Draftsman (person), and she never got coffee for her Boss. Beverly’s many hobbies reflected her creativity and love for life. She tried actress at a community center. She liked going to house parties, casinos, listing to music, playing family games and cooking She has left a lasting impression on her loyal cousins’ nieces, nephews and friends in Southfield, MI, Buffalo, NY, Rochester, NY, Cleveland, OH, Atlanta, GA San Jose, CA, Cary, NC, Beverly’s warmth and kindness made her a beloved figure to all who knew her. Beverly received her angelic wings peacefully after a brief illness on October 4,2024 at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. The love and joy she brought to others will be deeply and fondly remembered. Services will be announced in November by Holding Funeral Home.
