Corena C. Wagner

In Loving Memory Corena C. Wagner, age 94, was reunited with her beloved family on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Heritage Hall in Wise, VA. Corena was born in Wise County, VA, the daughter of the late John Henry Chandler and Maggie (Frazier) Chandler. She was a member of a large and loving family. Corena met and married the love of her life, Donald Wagner Sr., on July 27, 1962. They lived happily together for all these years in the Baum Hollow Community, where they raised their family and enjoyed their life together. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family. Corena enjoyed the simple things in life, including watching hummingbirds, tending to her garden, attending Durham’s Chapel Church, and canning food. She worked diligently and shared her talents at Joe Wolfe Market, the Trigiani Sewing Factory, and Buster Brown’s. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wagner Sr.; siblings Clarence, Emmit, Coy, Morrell, Pearl, Bea, and Clyde Chandler; Reba Denison, Hazel Gilley, Clara Yates; and two infant siblings. She is survived by her son, Donald Wagner and wife Sheila of Baum Hollow; her granddaughters, Halie Grace Wagner and Annie Nichole Clark and husband Ryan; and several other beloved nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heritage Hall in Wise, as well as Tiffany and Chasity Boggs, for their care and kindness. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. The visitation will be held in the chapel. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Dr. Lonnie Brooks officiating. Special music will be provided by Holding Funeral Home. The committal service will take place at Chandler Cemetery, 1501 Baum Hollow Road, Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Corena’s honor. This was a charity she supported throughout her entire life.
