BIG STONE GAP VA- Frances Marie Roller, affectionately known as Marie to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 98, after a period of long-term health decline. Born on February 22, 1927, in Wise County, Virginia, Marie was a beacon of love and faith throughout her cherished life. Marie grew up in the rolling hills of Virginia, where she attended school in Big Stone Gap. Her early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family and the simple joys of rural life. Marie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her devotion to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, bringing joy and comfort to all who knew her. Marie's interests extended beyond her home and church. She had a passion for gardening and took great pride in growing a variety of flowers that beautified her surroundings and brought joy to those around her. Her garden was a reflection of the care and attention she gave to every living thing. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Hobbs, and her siblings Sybil Hobbs, Ginny Neely, Herbert Hobbs, George Hobbs, Carroll Hobbs, Erwin Hobbs, Clinton Hobbs, Johnny Hobbs, Charlie Hobbs, Tommy Hobbs, James Hobbs, and Junior Hobbs. She was also predeceased by her children, David Tignor and Roger Tignor, and her infant son Lloyd Tignor, several nieces, nephews and other close relatives, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms into eternal rest. She is survived by her son Douglas Tignor of Dryden, Virginia, and stepdaughter Sue Edens of Pennington Gap, Virginia. Marie's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Destiny Tignor of Knoxville, Tennessee; Leslie Gill and her husband Billy of Bean Station, Tennessee; Carey Tignor of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; Traci Priest and her husband Troy of Louisville, Kentucky; and Christopher Tignor of Norton, Virginia. Her great-grandchildren, Hunter Ford of Blountville, Tennessee, and Anais Tignor of Norton, Virginia, will also hold her memory in their hearts. Marie's sisters, Nancy Willis and her husband Ray of Kingsport, Tennessee; Lucille Herndon and her husband Wayne of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; Trula Hauanio of Rose Hill, Virginia; and Margaret Phillips and her husband Scott of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, will miss her deeply. Additionally, Marie leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were blessed to know her love and kindness. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, VA from 5:00 p.m, until 7:00 p.m. for the visitation. The funeral service will be conducted following in the funeral home's chapel with Cliff Ely officiating. Her burial will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 in Glencoe Cemetery at 11:00 a.m those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery.
