Obituary for Jerry Arthur Carter Jerry Arthur Carter, 68, of Rose Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Jerry was born on June 2, 1954, to the late Robert and Ebbie Carter. Jerry earned his master’s degree in science from The University of Tennessee. Jerry worked for Vaughn & Melton for 43 years as a Vice President and Structural Engineer, specializing in bridge and railroad design. Jerry’s passion for engineering afforded him the opportunity to see many projects and growth take place under his design. Jerry was an avid woodworker and carver who expressed his creativity and imagination through his designs. His stubbornness and strength were surpassed by none, and Jerry demonstrated that through his 20-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer. In later years, Jerry and his older brother Raymond, built his peaceful home on a beautiful hilltop staring out onto the “White Rocks” of Virginia, along the Appalachian Trail. If Jerry wasn’t in the workshop, you could find him on the farm, tinkering away with a bright idea. Jerry attended Ingles Chapel where he enjoyed spending Sundays worshiping alongside his family and friends. Those left to celebrate and cherish the memories of Jerry include his wife, of thirteen years, Debbie Carter, three daughters, Rebecca Phillips (Justin), Julie Harrison (Ben), Christina Carter, one step son, Michael McKinney, one stepdaughter, Rebecca Yelton, two brothers, Raymond Carter (Joyce), James Carter, three grandchildren, Madeline, Emsley, James, one soon expected Levi, and several step grandchildren, whom he adored. In addition, Jerry’s job offered him the opportunity to work alongside many people he considered family. Throughout the years, Jerry cherished his pups like children, always sneaking them a cookie when no one was looking, most recently Boomer and Buddy. The funeral service and burial will be conducted at the Carter Family home on Saturday, March 4th at 1pm. Reverend Norman Clark will officiate, with a celebration of life to follow.
