Kenneth Ray Arwood

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of, Kenneth Ray Arwood, who left us on 6/29/2024 at the age of 63. He was born on 9/26/1960 at St. Mary's Hospital, Norton, Virginia to the late Hubert and Evelyn (Hamm) Arwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Fred Arwood of Big Stone Gap, VA. Kenneth "Bub" Arwood was a devoted father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his son Trevor Ray Arwood of Johnson City, TN; his daughter Samantha Pennington of Johnson City, TN, the mother of his children Kimberly Arwood of Appalachia, VA; sister, Janice Blevins and husband Danny of Myrtle Beach, SC, brothers, Gary "Hollywood" Arwood and wife Arlene of Big Stone Gap, VA, Herbert "Hub" Arwood and wife Penny of Jasper, VA who will forever cherish his memory. Along with niece, Jennifer Pinkston; nephews, Heath Arwood and Kelly Willis. He was known for his kindness, never knowing a stranger and becoming friends after a single conversation. The value of friendship. His teaching moments and inability to leave the house without spending 30 minutes combing his hair. But most importantly his unwavering support for his family. He would have given his last dollar to anyone and in his passing, left a single dollar in his pants for his son to find. Throughout his life, Kenneth Arwood was a hardworking man, working in the mines where he made a significant impact to raising a family. He was passionate about fishing, ginseng hunting and dry land fish hunting and loved to spend his time outside or among his friends and family most importantly being a father. Kenneth Arwood was a man of strong values and he instilled those values in his children. He taught us the importance of patience, common sense, the amount of a dollar, most importantly immeasurable love and his legacy will live on in all of us. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 5:00 pm at Natural Tunnel State Park, Shelter #1. All who knew him are welcome to attend, bring food and celebrate his life. We will miss him dearly, but we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace. His love and spirit will always be with us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
