Samuel "Sam" Wilson

Wilson, Samuel G. “Sam”, 68, of Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away on Thursday (April 14, 2011) at Lonesome Pine Hospital. Sam was an electrical contractor for many years. He was member of the Kazim Shrine of Roanoke, the Powell Valley Shrine Club and the Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge #208 AF & AM. He was also a member of the NRA. Sam loved boating, golf, football and NASCAR. He also loved spending time at his beloved lake house with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Earl and Nella Mae (Smith) Wilson, along with his brother, David Wilson (Shelby). Sam is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice. He is also survived by one daughter, Vikki Wilson Dough (Ranger) of Virginia Beach, VA; three sons, Mark Wilson (Lisa) and Michael Wilson (Julie) both of Gate City, VA, and Greg Wilson of Bruswick, GA. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Lucas, Ben and Courtney, who were the loves of his life. Sam is survived by one sister, Andrea Andes (Gary) of Kingsport, TN; three brothers, Bob Wilson (Anita) of Greeneville, TN, Tom Wilson (Ann) of Mullins, WV, John Wilson (Cheryl) of New Ulm, TX; along with many nieces and nephews. Besides Sam’s great love for his family, he leaves behind a wonderful and generous circle of friends. A celebration Sam’s life will be held in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel (17 E. 3rd St. N.) Big Stone Gap, VA on Sunday (April 17). The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m.. The Rev. Tony Palubicki will officiate. A gathering will immediately follow the service at Big Stone Gap Presbyterian Church (E. Third St., S. and Clinton Avenue) Big Stone Gap, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sam’s memory to The Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605; or the Powell Valley Shrine Club’s Transportation Fund, P. O. Box 113, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.
