Velma Jean (Sutton) Pace

Velma Jean (Sutton) Pace, of Ewing, Va. Proverbs 31:27 “She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed…Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Velma Jean (Sutton) Pace of Ewing, Va. age 87, left for Heaven on Friday, September 15, 2023, at U. T. Hospital in Knoxville, TN. Born in Leona Mines (St. Charles) Va. on October, 16 1935, she was the last child of six born from Hugh and Minnie (Hylton) Sutton.Velma grew up in St. Charles attending School and later graduating. After graduating, Velma left the area to look for work. Her journey took her to Dayton OH, where she found employment with the Telephone Company. Also while in Dayton, she met and married the love of her life, "Bill" they had a true devotion to one another. After 66 years of marriage she has gone on before her husband. Velma was an inspiration to her family, they referred to her as "Bang". "Bang and Bill" are devoted grandparents, and great grandparents. Velma also was a dedicated lady among her peers and community. She involved herself in various organizations throughout the years serving as a member of the Rebecca Lodge #88, as well as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Boones Path Lions Club in Ewing and Rose Hill. She loved the Lord and attended Ingalls Chapel Church. Velma was a devoted, wife, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend, she will be deeply missed by all those that knew her. In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah K. Pace Brooks, and five siblings. Edith Sutton Fleenor, Edna Sutton Nelson, Cefus Sutton, Hobart Sutton, and Otis Sutton. Those left to cherish her memory and hold her in their hearts, her husband, Billy Joe Pace 'Bill" of the home, son in law, Gary Brooks, two grandchildren, Joe Brooks, Amy and husband Robert Clonce, great grandchildren, Hayden Noah and Kaylee Clonce, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, church members and friends. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 18, 2023 for a graveside committal service at Lee Family Cemetery in Rose Hill, VA. The service will be officiated by Rev. Norman Clark, and Shelby Long will be reading the obituary. Those wishing to attend can meet at Holding Funeral Home of Rose Hill by 1:30pm to travel in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
