Big Stone Gap, VA Betty G. Sturgill, 82, passed away on Saturday (May 2, 2015) at her home. She was born in Osaka, Va. and lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She was a member of Thee Church in Appalachia, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Garner Sturgill; her daughter, Bernice Kaye Kilgore; and a brother, Keaster David “Bud” Grindstaff. Surviving are two daughters, Patty Masters and husband, Lynn of Toledo, OH, and Sherry M. Sturgill and husband, Larry of Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Morrissey, Kristen (Jon) Jessop, Mandy Lynn (Brandon) Comes, and Samuel Jones; five great grandchildren, Garner Munn, Braden Munn, Annabelle Munn, Elijah Comes and Caleb Comes; one brother, Delmar Penley and wife, Betty of Big Stone Gap; one sister, Louise “Tootie” Cress of Big Stone Gap; step-son, Tim Sturgill and wife, Rebecca of Big Stone Gap, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Clifton officiating. Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at American Legion Cemetery in Big Stone Gap. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
