Keokee,Virginia Billie Jean (Calton) Flanary of Stony Lonesome Road, Keokee, VA., passed away at the Lee Rehab & Health Center in Pennington Gap Virginia on April 17, 2015. She was born in Keokee, Virginia on March 17, 1927 to the late William Patton and Callie Emily Myrtle (Upchurch) Calton, making her stay on this earth – 88 yrs and 1 month. Billie Jean was preceded in death by her daughter Sheila Faye Kennard, Brothers: Edward, Ralph, Isaac, John, Virgil, and William. Sisters: Mildred, Audrey, Eulala, Marie and Faye. She leaves to mourn : Her husband of 69 yrs – Roy, sons: Leroy and wife Brenda of Parkersburg W.Va, Pat and wife Charlotte of Lexington, Ky., Phil and wife Cathy of Gray Tennessee and son-in-law Harry Kennard of Paintsville, Ky.. Her grandchildren: Mona Jean, Lisa, Willie, Patrick, Angie, Michelle, Brian, Amanda, Brent, Billy and Leah. Great Grandchildren: C.J., Bailey, Cole, Josie, Fiana, Brayden and Vivian. Step Great Grandchildren: Anthony, Ciara, Austin, Zachary, J.T. Gracie, Step Great Great Grand Child – Carter and with a host of friends and relatives. The family is very thankful for Pat and Charlotte, who sacrificed so much, so that Pat could stay with Billie and Roy the last few years and be their care givers. Sister Billie Jean joined the Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church on April 1, 1952 and was baptized on April 6th, 1952 by Elder Dan Robinette and Brother John Morris (Deacon). She attended faithfully until she was overcome by her health. She was a true help meet to Elder Roy. They traveled many a mile going to meetings to attend churches in Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee and visiting the brothers and sisters in the Lord. Sister Billie Jean had a God given gift of being a Mother to all that would visit her home. She would treat everyone like they were her own children. She loved to cook and put food on the table for her family and guests. It would hurt her if anyone left the table hungry. So she would try to make sure everyone had seconds. Her grandchildren were very special to her. She would give them Little Debbie oatmeal cakes and told us that was like eating a bowl of oatmeal and to leave them alone. If she knew someone liked a certain dish and she knew they were coming for a visit, she would make it for them and send any leftovers home with them. The family will receive friends on Monday (April 20) from 5 until 8 p.m. for the visitation at Holding Funeral Home of Big Stone Gap (17 East. 3rd St. N.) The funeral service will be conducted; On Tuesday (April 21) at 12:00 noon at the Oak Grove Church, Keokee Virginia; she will lie in state for one hour prior to the service Elder Reece Maggard and Elder Ronnie Beavers officiating. The interment will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Her Grandson will serve as pallbearers.
