May 19, 1942 - March 31, 2013

Inman, VA Carolyn Sue Reed, 70, born in Inman, VA on May 19, 1942, went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday (March 31, 2013) following an extended Illness. Carolyn was a member of East Stone Gap Baptist Church, and a retiree of Verizon as a telephone operator in Appalachia, Roanoke, and Norton, VA. She was a member of CWA and The Pioneers. She loved cookbooks and shopping and always gave the best gifts. She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, and very special aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Hershel Reed; sister, Jackie Riordan; nephew, Larry Franz Reed; great nephew, Evan Reed, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Surviving is her mother, Elsie Reed of Inman, VA; brother, Larry Reed and wife Terri of Big Stone Gap, VA; sister, Gina Slemp and husband Jimmy of Big Stone Gap; brother-in-law, Jerry Riordan of Big Stone Gap; nieces, Missy Buckles and husband Dustin, and Skyla Slemp; nephews: Kevin Reed and wife Sarah, Mark Reed and wife Vanessa, Jarret Riordan and wife April, Jason Riordan, Jerome Riordan, and Noah Slemp; great nieces, Emma Riordan, Haylee Pope, and Katie Buckles; great nephews, Michael Reed, Brody Buckles, Rolly Riordan, Landon Reed, Austin Deahl, and Alex Deahl; special cousin, Janice Meade; and lifelong friends, Joyce Lackey, and Linda Cox; The family would like to give a special thank you to Heritage Hall Nursing Home for the wonderful care and attention that Carolyn received. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Lonnie Brooks and Pastor Josh Tompkins officiating. Committal services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 11:20 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Kevin, Mark and Michael Reed, Jerome Jason and Jarret Riordan, Austin Deahl and Noah Slemp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to MEOC Fuel Assistance Fund, P. O. Box 888, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219 or the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center, 671 Highway 58E, Norton, VA 24273.
