Clara Ruth Vernon

August 22, 1932 - May 6, 2011

Vernon, Clara Ruth, 78, of Dryden, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday (May 6, 2011) at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Wise County and Lee County, VA. She worked for Norris Industries in Duffield, VA and Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, VA. She was a member of the Holiness Church of God In Jesus Name in Big Stone Gap, VA. She was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Angel Star Vernon; a great grandson, Christopher Sturgill; her parents, Earl & Cora (Waters) Smith; one sister, Brenda Bush; and four brothers, Don Smith, Charles Smith, Arnold Smith & Robert Smith. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Noah Vernon; ten daughters, Carolyn Sturgill (Hubert) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Sue Vernon of Derby, VA, Sandra Rogers (Jimmy) and Deborah Vernon, all of Duffield, VA, Rachel Tyner (James) and Cora Garrett (Jessie), all of Dryden, VA, Donna Hobbs of Rogersville, TN, Teresa Vernon of Clinchport, VA, Joanne Vernon and Tonya Robinson (Richard) all of Big Stone Gap; three sons, Stephen Vernon (Argie) of Jonesville, VA, Ben Vernon (Iva Dell) of Gate City, VA, and Charles Vernon of Applachia, VA; many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Allen Williams, Pastor Danny Grizzle and Pastor Jimmy Hammonds officiating.
