Big Stone Gap, VA Edward (Ed) Joseph Sizemore, Sr. 92, passed into his saviors arms on Saturday (Oct 24, 2015) at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Ed was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on July 31, 1923 to Hiram and Stella Sizemore. He served in the United States Navy, during WWII on a minesweeper, escorting oil tankers across the Atlantic Ocean. After the war, Ed worked for Kelly Motor Company and worked as a coal miner in the Wise County area. At this time, he was a member of First Christian Church in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. In 1956, Ed moved to Melbourne, Florida and co-owned a Standard Oil Service Station. In 1961, Ed and his partners, Toby White and Jim Kelly, sold the service station and started the Time Saver Convenience Store chain in the Lake Okeechobee area. While in Florida, he helped establish two churches. The successful convenience store chain grew to 18 stores and was sold in 1986. From that time, Ed worked as the president and co-owner of a real estate development company with his sons. He was the active president of the company until the day he went home to Jesus. Ed was currently living in Pembroke, Virginia and attending Dwelling Place Christian Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his son; Edward (Buddy) Joseph Sizemore, Jr his wives; Frances Stacy Sizemore; Betty Chapman Sizemore his brothers; W.R. “Spec” Mumpower, Earl “Red” Mumpower Sister: Stella Clark He is survived by his son: Rick Sizemore Grandchildren: Edward (Trey) J. Sizemore, III; Lemuel Brook Sizemore; Shea Sizemore; Michele Sizemore his Great Grandchildren: Addison Sizemore; Wake Sizemore; Emerson Sizemore Maksimilian Sizemore; Frances Sizemore his brother: Barda Sizemore, his sisters: Betty Salyers and Anne Fultz The family will receive friends on Saturday Oct. 31 for a graveside service conducted at 2:00 p.m in the Glencoe Cemetery. Military Rites will be administered by the Local D.A.V. and V.F.W.
