Elizabeth Joyce Swiney Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Big Stone Gap, VA Elizabeth Joyce Thompson Swiney, 77, was born on May 5, 1936 and died on May 30, 2013 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. She was born and raised in Inman, VA, and she resided in Roda, Stonega, and Big Stone Gap during her lifetime. Education was important to her, and she completed her G.E.D. in 1969. She was of Holiness faith and fully supported her husband's ministry. Absent from the body and present with the Lord, she rejoices with her husband of 58 years, E. C. "Tate" Swiney. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Radford and Edna Thompson and her brother, James Ferl. Joyce is survived by her children, Veronica "Tana" Henson and husband, Michael of Pennington Gap, VA, Helen Elizabeth "Py" Powell, who cared for her every day, and Tyler Scott Swiney and wife Tammy, all of Big Stone Gap, E. C. "Bud" Swiney, Jr. of Madison, MS, Heather Lynn Swiney of Abingdon, VA, and Christopher Casey Swiney and wife, Stephanie of Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren, Sabrina Ralene Middleton, Andrea Lea Shupe, Travis Keith Swiney and wife Leanna, Nikki Lee Adam Swiney, Kayla Renee Swiney, Tyler Scott Swiney, II, and Melody Allison Orender; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a very special niece and prayer partner, Regina Sneed; and a caring and devoted caregiver, Amanda Pearson. Private graveside services will be conducted at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, where the family will lay Joyce to rest beside her beloved husband.
