Ewing , VA Freddie Long Jr., 64, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at his residence in Ewing, Virginia. He was born in Lee County, Virginia. The son of the late, Mossie Long. He was a farmer by trade. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, children, & friends. He was meticulous about his lawn, and enjoyed riding his mower. He loved fishing, playing cards on the weekend,and he took pride in being the #1 “Papaw”. He will be deeply missed by his loving family. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by;his two sisters; Vernice Hatfield, Wanda Cheek, his brother, Bill Long, one unborn infant. He is survived by his children; Jason and wife Jenna Russell of Ewing, VA., Shawn and wife Shellie Russell of Ewing, VA., daughter, Freda and husband Alan Yeary of Ewing, VA., mother of his children; Peggy Russell, grandchildren; Emma, Seth, Brantley, Kaydence, Mason, Haylee, Taylor, Megan, Caleb, Kylie, sister, Rebecca Sue Cheek of Rose Hill, VA., Sister-in-law Jerlean Long. And long time friends Alan Yeary, Ronnie and Rick Burke, Roger Cheek, Roy McVey, Ed and Todd Jones, Patty Purvis, Linda, Nancy Collins, Dick and Bob many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great nephews, other close relatives and friends. The family of Fred Long will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. for the visitation at Holding Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Virginia. The service will follow in the funeral home’s chapel with Pastors Pat Moore & Robert Moore officiating. The committal service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m in Brooks Cemetery. Those wishing to go to the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 to go in procession to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
