Lynchburg, VA/Big Stone Gap, VA James M. Gilley, son of the late I. Tilden Gilly and Addie Gilley of Big Stone Gap, has passed away in Lynchburg at the age of 103. Jim was a 1927 graduate of Big Stone Gap High School as well as a 1932 graduate of The College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA. He is survived by his son, James M. Gilley III of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, his daughter, Martha Da Gilley of Asheville, NC , his grandson, James Madison Mangold of Sacramento, CA; his niece, Ann Gilley Harris of Bristol,VA; his nephew John Gilley of Tucson, AZ and their families. Mr. Gilley was born in Keokee, VA and grew up in Big Stone Gap, VA, graduating from Big Stone Gap High School in 1927. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and later become both a Certified Public Accountant and an Attorney at Law. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Oran, Algeria and retired as a Captain from the US Naval Reserves. He retired as Vice President and General Manager from Burruss Land and Lumber Company of Lynchburg. His and his wife's remains will rest at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gilley Family Scholarship Fund at Mountain Empire Community College, 3441 Mountain Empire Road, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219. Holding Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
