Big Stone Gap, VA James E. Baker 74 passed away peacefully on Tuesday (March 3, 2015) at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Big Stone Gap. James was born on June 17, 1940 in Wise County. He was the son of the late Fred and Marie (Blondell) Baker. He spent his entire life right here in Big Stone Gap. He was retired from the Westmoreland Coal company with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the West End Baptist Church. He had two great loves in his life. The first was the Lord and Savior Jesus, the second was his family. He is survived by his wife Sandra Baker they have been married for 51 years; his two daughters; Margaret Mullins and companion Bill Wireman, Jennifer Freeman; five grandchildren; Robbie Mullins wife Ashley, Colby Mullins wife Jess, Britney Freeman, John Freeman, great grandchild whom he deeply loved Addison Mullins, four sisters; Betty Blondell husband Darrell, Joyce Caudill husband Clayton, Cathy Ryan husband Jerry, Diana Ryan husband Robbie, one brother Johnny Baker fiancé Lynn, special niece Amy Smith, other close relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Mon. (March 9,) at West End Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until 2 for the visitation (509 Wood Ave, Big Stone Gap, Virginia 24219) The funeral Service will be conducted following the visitation in the chapel of the West End Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Tompkins officiating. Special Music will be provided by Alice Osborne The committal service, will be officiated by Darrell Blondell in the; Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be; Robbie Mullins, Colby Mullins, John Freeman, Jason Ryan, J.J. Ryan, Kevin Ryan, Peanut Carpenter; honorary will be; Billy Joe Wireman. The family would like to express their gratitude for Dr. Basham, and all of the staff at Heritage Hall for their attentive care during his illness.
