James "Jimmy" Holding Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Holding, James A. “Bear” , 57, passed away on Sunday (July 31, 2011) at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, VA. He was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, VA, lived in Houston, TX for 18 years, lived in Nicholasville, KY for ten years and had resided back in Big Stone Gap since 2001. He was a former employee of A T & T in Houston, TX. He was on the Cabin Committee for the Town of Big Stone Gap. Jimmy enjoyed coaching the youth and especially liked watching his grandchildren grow and mature. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Lynn Holding; his parents, W. I. “Bill” and Phyllis (Large) Holding; and his brother, W. I. “Billy” Holding, III. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Terry Dorton Holding; one daughter, Christy Dawn Spicer and husband, Thomas of Versailles, KY; one son, James A. “Jimmy” Holding, II of the home; six grandchildren, Brandon Watts, Gabrielle Spicer, Gavin Spicer, Matthew Holding, Jackson Holding and Chloe Holding; his sister, Nita Holding Wilson and husband, Blake of Big Stone Gap; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, VA. A memorial service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tony Palubicki officiating. An inurnment graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at American Legion Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at 9:50 a.m. at the cemetery.
