James B. "Jim" Gilley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Big Stone Gap, VA James B. "Jim" Gilley, 85, passed away on Saturday (December 1, 2012) at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. He was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap. He was the past owner of Diamond "G" Jewelry, Dari-Delite, and many other ventures during his lifetime. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap, where he was a member of the Methodist Men. Jim was active in the area, having served on the Wise County Planning Commission, Wise County Industrial Development Authority, and a member of the Wise County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge #208 A.F. & A.M., the Powell Valley Shrine Club and the Kazim Temple of Roanoke. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Irene K. Gilley; his brother, Kenneth Gilley; four sisters, Maureen Adams, Helen Kelly, Louise Jones and Katherine Duffy; and a daughter-in-law, Joan Gilley. Surviving are one daughter, Mercedes Wells and her fiancé, Jerry Couch of Johnson City, TN; two sons, Kenny Gilley, and Ralph Gilley and wife, Leslie, both of Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren, Courtney Combs and husband, Michael, Kent Gilley and wife, Susan, Justin Gilley, and Brittany Gilley and fiancé, Brian Angello; one great granddaughter, Caroline Combs; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church (Wyandotte Ave. and E. 1st. St.) in Big Stone Gap. An entombment service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Terry Goodman and the Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. on Monday. Pallbearers will be: Oscar "Boo" Sturgill, Harry Meador, III, Greg Norris, Ron Prewitt, Gary Hall, and Mark Blanken.
