East Stone Gap, VA Janice Burleson Collins, 72, passed away on Saturday (July 6, 2013) in Johnson City, TN, following a brief illness. She was born in Roda, Va. on July 9, 1940. She was a graduate of Appalachia High School, a graduate of Mary Washington College of U. Va. in Fredericksburg, Va. and a graduate of the U. S. Public Health Service School of Medical Record Science in Baltimore, Md. Janice was Health Information Manager and Medical Staff Services Professional, having worked 42 years in these professions, with 34 years at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. Janice also worked at the University of Virginia Medical Center and the University of Utah Medical Center. She was a member of the East Stone Gap United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Monica Lynn Collins; her son, George Robert Collins; her parents, Robert T. and Lois J. (Gibbs) Burleson; and a brother, Richard C. Burleson. She is survived by her grandson, Maximus Zen "Max" Collins of Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burleson Phipps of Kingsport, Tenn.; and special friends, Natanya and Brian Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday (July 8, 2013) at American Legion Cemetery (5001 Powell Valley Road) in Big Stone Gap, Va. with Pastor Ric Wright.officiating.
