Appalachia, Virginia Joe Franklin Nichols Jr.- 77, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Norton Community Hospital. Joe was born in Appalachia, Virginia, he was the son of the late Joe Nichols Sr. and Leona Nichols, he was one of three children. He attended and graduated from Appalachia High School. After his high school days, Joe felt a calling to serve his country. He answered the call and joined the United States Army where he served his country honorably. While in the service he developed his lifelong career as a mechanic. After he returned to civilian life he worked at Carter Machinery as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a faithful Christian who was devoted to the study of the Bible. He excelled at being the "Light" to his family and friends. He was a dedicated father to his girls and his grandchildren. His family will cherish the life lessons, and love he showered them with over the years. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Billie Sue Nichols, and Johnny Nichols. He is survived by his three daughters and their families, Julie Pierce (Mike), Amanda Nichols, & Leslie Nichols, his grandchildren; Braden, Gavin, & Leighton Pierce, Cami Russell, Gabe Nichols, Kira Sturgill, Kyli- Jo Honeycutt, and Izzy Watts, his brother, David Nichols, other close relatives, and friends. The family of Joe F. Nichols will receive friends for a graveside service on Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 2:30 to go in procession to the cemetery.
