Big Stone Gap, VA Kyle D. Stidham, 64, went to be with the Lord on Friday (Nov. 30, 2012) at Lonesome Pine Hospital. He lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap and had lived in North Carolina during the 1970's for several years. He was a retired Railroad Engineer with the N & W Railroad. He worked as a firefighter for the Morganton, NC Fire Department, while living in North Carolina. Kyle was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Green Beret. He was a Christian. Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Audrey E. (Spangler) Stidham; and a brother, Michael Stidham. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Griggs Stidham; his daughter, Johnna Stidham Gibson of Kingsport, TN; his son, Dr. Michael Scott Stidham and his wife, Dr. Maria Sinopoli Stidham of Washington, D. C.; six sisters, Jean Henley and husband, Emory of Clarksville, TN, Judy Lewis and husband, Ed of Johnson City, TN, Janice Riggs of Dryden, VA, Patsy Stidham of Big Stone Gap, Brenda Allen and husband, Kermit of Duffield, VA , and Dr. Fay Garrison and husband, Dr. James Garrison of Appalachia, VA; two brothers, Robert Stidham, Jr. of Johnson City, TN and Ricky Stidham of Appalachia, VA; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rick Whitten officiating. Military graveside rites, by local V.F.W. and D.A.V. Posts and the VA National Guard Honors team, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Glencoe Cemetery. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday to go in procession.
