Riggs, Lillian May, 95, of Big Stone Gap, VA, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning (May 2, 2011) at Lonesome Pine Hospital. She was born and raised in McCreary County, KY and lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She has been a lifelong member of the Appalachia Pentecostal Church. She was a very precious saint and was loved by anyone who met her. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Riggs; her mother, Annie (Bryant) Kidd; her father, Granville Kidd; her brothers, George Mason, Willard Kidd and Alonzo Kidd; and her sister, Nancy Kidd. Surviving are her son, Dr. Roy E. Smith and wife Anna Lee of Big Stone Gap; six grandchildren, Mary Ann Collins and husband, Kenny, Darrell Smith and wife Christine, Carletta Fannon and husband Mike, Joey Smith and wife Pam, all of Big Stone Gap, Dr. Roy C. Smith of Skokie, IL, and Ruth Ann Kinsler and husband Earl of Stonega, VA; seven great grandchildren, Gina Cothron and husband Grayson, Karissa Collier and husband Tommy, Natasha Peterson and husband Chris, Andy Fannon and wife Shonna, Dustin Smith, Allison Kinsler and Alex “A.J.” Kinsler; six great-great grandchildren, Bryson and Emily Cothron, Jordon Collier, Hannah, Jaci and Keegan Peterson; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Appalachia Pentecostal Church (340 Oak Street, Appalachia, VA 24216). The funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Ronnie Childress and the Rev. Chester Lamb officiating. Committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the American Legion Cemetery (5001 Powell Valley Road) in Big Stone Gap, VA. The family and friends will meet at the church by 10:15 a.m. on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will serve as pallbearers.
