Big Stone Gap, VA Majil Lois (Highfield) Maggard, 94, passed away, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at The Laurels, her present home. Majil was born in Blackie, KY on January 25, 1925 to the late James Walter and Ida Cleo (Whitehead) Highfield in the Cumberland/Benham area and spent most of her adult life in Big Stone Gap, VA. A devoted Christian, she was of the Pentecostal/Holiness faith and attended The Laurels Chapel, Norton, VA and New Hope Assembly, Big Stone Gap, VA. In addition to her parents, her husband of 65 years, Charlie Maggard; brothers, Marshall (Buddy) and Billy Highfield; sisters, Mildred H. Whitaker and Doris Ann Evans; and grandson, Charles Fredrick (Little Man) Luntsford preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Lois Maggard, Carolyn Maggard Ketchersid (Dallas) and Alan Maggard (Sandra); grandchildren, Darren Caruso (Nichole), Michelle Barker ( Willie), Shanna Barber (Jason), and Brandon Maggard (Ashton); 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild, and 2 expectant great great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Holding Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Whitten and Pastor Willie Barker officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2019 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff of The Laurels in Norton and to Virginia Hospice and Palliative Care for their much-appreciated care of Mom.
