Duffield, VA Millard Gilliam, 74, passed away on Saturday (Feb. 15, 2014) at home. He was a lifelong resident of Scott County, VA. He worked in the timber industry in his early years. He was a retired coal miner with the Sterling Mining Co., with 10 years of service and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura (Frazier) Gilliam; and two brothers, his twin brother Don Gilliam and E. M. Gilliam. Surviving are his one son, Randall Gilliam and wife, Kathy of Duffield, VA; three daughters, Wanda Collier and Wayne Williams of Big Stone Gap, VA, Trena Sturgill and husband Eugene "Speck" of Mooresburg, TN and Sherry Collins and husband, Lee of Kingsport, TN; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brothers, Luther Gilliam, Loren Gilliam and Elbert Gilliam; sisters, Ruby Rogers, Marie Bishop and Bonnie Bishop; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special acknowledgement to daughter-in-law, Kathy Gilliam and grandsons, Jacob Gilliam and Shawn Gilliam. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 19, 2014) at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap, VA and anytime at the home of Randall Gilliam. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Lonnie Townsend and Rev. Carl Rogers officiating. Music will be provided by the Bowens Chapel Singers. Burial will follow in the Meredith Cemetery in the Jasper Community of Duffield, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
