Big Stone Gap, VA Roy Woodrow Davis, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday (January 21, 2013) at Indian Path Medical Center. Mr. Davis was a retired coal miner. He loved farming, fishing, bargaining, and tinkering with lawn-mowers. He was a strong, grounded man and loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on February 18, 1937 to the late Tobe and Jennie Burke Davis. He spent his life being a devoted son and brother and on August 1, 1959, he married the love of his life, the late Wanda Hall Davis. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Jefferson Davis. He is survived by three blessed children, Roy W. Davis, Jr and wife Judy of Weber City, VA, son Allen Davis and wife Betty of Dryden, VA, and a daughter Jennifer Davis of Big Stone Gap, VA. He was a loving grandfather to Brian, Matthew, Dustin, Elizabeth, and Catherine. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Davis, Echol Davis, and Hagan Davis, all of Big Stone Gap, Jack Davis of Duffield, VA and Dave Davis of Crestwood, KY; his sister, Dora Woods of Big Stone Gap; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Committal services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Barkers Cemetery in the Crackers Neck Community of Big Stone Gap. Family and friends will meet by 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
