Shell Arnold, Jr.

Big Stone Gap, VA Shell Arnold, Jr., 89, passed away on Friday (August 9, 2013) at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, VA, following several months of failing health. He was born in Wise County, VA and lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap. He was a mechanic for the former Tri-State Bus Lines, General Trucking Co, with over 25 years of service and was co-owner, with his son, of Arnold's Truck Repair, Inc. in Dryden, VA. Shell enjoyed his profession and devoted his life to hard work. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shell and Maggie Arnold; four sisters, Ruth McElroy, Nell Heaberlain, Sarah Stephens and Ann Shupe. Shell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patsy Tucker Arnold; his son, Patrick Shell Arnold and wife, Amy, and granddaughter, Shelley Lynn Arnold, all of Big Stone Gap; brothers, Conley Arnold of Florida and Luther Arnold of Ohio; two sisters, Jean Hayden and Donna Bevins, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Terry Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: William Tucker, Joe Neeley, James Bolling, Gary Hall, Ben Allen and Jack Gembach.
