Weber City, VA Terry Smith, 92, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Born on March 24, 1925 in Osaka, VA, Mr. Smith served as a Navy Signalman in World War II in the Pacific Theater and remained proudly associated with his LST brethren throughout his life. He was retired from the Kingsport Press where he enjoyed his work and his colleagues. He was an elder and long standing member of Gate City First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola Smith; wife of 64 years, Violet May Smith; daughter, Teresa Dawn Smith; and sister, Peggy G. Esposito. He is survived by nieces Carmela Cotter and husband Michael, Middletown, Ohio; Jan Frazier, Weber City, VA.; Helen Greer, Kingsport, TN.; nephew Tom Frazier and wife Becky, Jonesborough, TN. great niece Alexandra Frazier, Jonesboro, TN; great nephews, Sean Cotter, London, England, and Justin Frazier, Gray, TN. Mr. Smith is survived by special friends Arlen Hensley, Steve and Peggy Sutphin, Kelly and Delonda Spivey, and Lola Dean. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 11:00am-1:00pm with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm at Gate City Presbyterian Church with Reverend Randy Webb officiating. Music will be provided by Suzanne Kerney-Quillen. Graveside military services, by the U. S. Navy Honors Team and local V.F.W. and D.A.V. posts, will be held at 3:00pm in the Glencoe Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA. Pallbearers will be Michael Cotter, Sean Cotter, Justin Frazier, Tom Frazier, Kelly Spivey and Steve Sutphin. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gate City Presbyterian Church, 274 Jones Street, Gate City, VA, 24251.
