Big Stone Gap, VA Walter L. Scott 68, went home to be with the lord Saturday (August 25, 2012) at Mountain View Regional Hospital. Walter was a devoted member of the Appalachia Pentecostal church. Walter was active in the Virginia Special Olympics, he participated for many years. During his competition tour he amassed an astonishing # of medals 20 gold, 11 silver, 10 bronze. Walter was voted employee of the year in 1995 by the Southwest VA, Providers Forum while employed at Dairy Queen. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Walter C. Scott and Nannie Scott, two sisters Judy (Scott) , Nancy Gail Scott also his companion of 17 years Angie Holyfield. He is survived by four sisters Avanell husband Melvin Eads of Derby, Betty husband Bill Mathison of Nashville Tn, Linda husband Sid Cooper of Big Stone Gap, Sara June husband Don Snodgrass of Hotsprings MO. Several Nieces and nephews and a host of other very close relatives and friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Ridgecrest manor in Duffield, along with the staff of Developmental Service's incorporated. The family will receive friends on Tuesday (August, 28 2012) at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd Street) from 5 to 7. The funeral service will be conducted following the visitation with the Dr. Roy Smith officiating. Special music will be provided by the family. The family will meet at American Legion cemetery on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for the committal service.
