Evelyn (Holbrook) Falin Belcher

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" Evelyn (Holbrook) Falin Belcher, age 82, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Wise County, Virginia, Evelyn was the cherished daughter of the late Curtis and Dora Holbrook and one of eight children. Raised in the mountains she loved so dearly, she developed a lifelong devotion to her faith. Through song and praise, she faithfully served her Lord, sharing her beautiful gift of gospel music in churches and at countless funerals. As a member of the beloved “Falin Sisters,” Evelyn’s voice touched the hearts of many and became a treasured part of her community’s spiritual life. Evelyn was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and sister whose life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a genuine love for others. She of her time, always ready to listen, to comfort, or to share a laugh. For many years, she compassionately cared for others through her work at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, reflecting her servant’s heart. She was of the Holiness faith and worshiped in many churches throughout the region. Known for her joyful spirit and playful sense of humor, Evelyn brought light and laughter wherever she went. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Donna Blanton and Doug Falin; her brothers, James, Woodrow, and Curtis Lee Holbrook; her sisters, Rosetta Falin, Lilly Fay Holbrook, and Diana Lynn Seals; her son-in-law, Billy Womble; and her husbands, Claude Gene Blanton and Fred Falin. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter, Rhonda Falin Womble; her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Jenkins (David), Steven Quillen, Crystal Womble, Shawn Falin (partner Erin), Billy Womble (wife Becki), and Jessie Swiney IV (wife Jocelyn); her dear sister, Hazel Phillips (husband Darrel); fifteen beloved great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Minnie Dalton and Margaret Falin; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Evelyn’s legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Caris Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate support, and especially to Becki Womble for her devoted and loving care during Evelyn’s final journey. The family of Evelyn will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Ricky Oakes officiating. Special music will be provided by Shelly and Randy Bentley. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at American Legion Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
