Gladys Marie Yeary Marcum - Rose Hill, VA Gladys Marcum, age 90, of Rose Hill, VA, went home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Granger, TX. She lived the last 5 years of her life in Texas with visits to her home as often as possible. She began to decline around Thanksgiving of 2025 but fought hard to stay for her children who will miss her terribly. Gladys was born on September 7, 1935, in Ewing, VA, to Glenn and Laura Yeary. She graduated from Thomas Walker High School. She had taken college courses to better her life. She first sold blackberries, walnuts, Avon, Amway, and Electroluxe. She did laundry for Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and Dwight for many years. She was a teacher’s aide at Rose Hill Elementary. She retired from Lee County Social Services. She also taught and helped with Bible School at the Ingles Chapel Methodist Church. She loved her job as a babysitter and taking care of children and babies including niece Lorrie Yeary Wright, Grace and Charity Greer, Tabitha Garrett LeMarr, Gracie Hedrick, Abigail Ellis, Carlyn Yeary, and more. Her other passions were gardening, canning, flowers, and hunting hickory chicken where she kept dates for planting and amounts of her bounty. She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Augustine Yeary; mother, Laura Anne Warf Yeary; brothers, Harold and Robert Yeary; granddaughter, Heather Marcum; and grandson, Shane Lyckman. She is survived by her sisters, Thelma Johnston of Troutman, NC, Lil Klempner of Pensacola, FL, and Susan Pack of Knoxville, TN; brother Tyler Yeary of Rose Hill, VA; her children, Sharen Kohutek of Granger, TX, Mike (JoAnn) Marcum of Hutto, TX, Chuck (Lisa) Marcum of Rose Hill, VA, Gary (Ann) Marcum of Rose Hill, VA, Greg Marcum (Janis Garraway) of Round Rock, TX, and Karen Yeary of Georgetown, TX; grandchildren, Kevin (Lauren) Marcum of Hutto, TX, Travis Marcum (Corey Haynes) of Shawanee, TN, Cody (Kim) Yeary of Belton, TX, and Tara Marcum of Morristown, TN; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marcum, Kaiya Yeary, Max Yeary, Ben Yeary, and Walker Yeary; a host of special cousins, nieces, and nephews; Sara Snyder; and a host of extended family and friends. Gladys loved her family, God, and her church. She loved to give testimonies during regular church services about having God in her life. Having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren come to her house for dinners, trips to Gatlinburg, Cades Cove, and elsewhere gave her such joy. The family will receive friends at Ingles Chapel Church for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Ingles Chapel Church, with Preacher Norman Clark officiating. Special music will be provided by Joyce Williams, and Mike Bray will read the obituary. Burial will follow at the Dean–Ingles Chapel Cemetery. At her request, pallbearers will be Adam Yeary, David Bray, Ricky Williams, Bobby Ellis, Ricky Burke, Doug Pillion, and Robert Louthen.
