Pauline Mullins McElroy – Big Stone Gap, VA Pauline Mullins McElroy, age 92, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Pauline was born in Appalachia, VA, the daughter of the late Emmitt Mullins and Eva Stidham Mullins. One of thirteen children, she grew up in a large, close-knit family. In her early twenties, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she found employment, built her life, and began raising her family. She worked for Nokia until her retirement, after which she returned to Big Stone Gap, where she has resided ever since. Pauline attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and lived her faith with quiet strength and devotion. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her life was a testament to the qualities of a virtuous woman; she embodied the Holy Spirit and left a profound impact on everyone blessed to know her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twelve siblings: Leonis Mullins, Gertrude Stidham, Branard Mullins, Irene Craiger, Thelma Day, Helen Day, Dewey Mullins, Robert Mullins, James Mullins, Ralph Mullins, Warren Mullins, and Winfred Mullins. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rachelle McElroy; grandchildren Nathan McElroy and David McElroy; three great-grandchildren, Sawyor McElroy, Harlan McElroy, and Lincoln McElroy; her special son, Curtis McElroy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other close relatives and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Region Home Health, Linda Stratton, and Caris Hospice for their love, compassion, and gentle care. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St. N.) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for visitation. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Russell Herron officiating. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to join the funeral procession. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
