PEGGY SUE RUSSELL

Ewing, VA – Peggy Russell Peggy Sue Russell, age 66, departed this life on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at her home in Ewing following a courageous battle with cancer. Peggy was born in Dryden, Virginia, to the late Alfred Russell and Laura Lily (Delph) Russell. She was known for her strong work ethic and her unwavering willingness to help others in any way she could. A devoted and loving woman, she spent her spare moments fishing and yard selling; she could always find a good deal or negotiate her way into one. Peggy was the heart of her family. You simply could not keep her away from those she loved. She was the glue that held everyone together, and there will never be another quite like her. Peggy was a faithful follower of the Lord and spent her days sharing her faith with anyone who would listen. She had the biggest heart—and a voice to match—so you always knew when she entered a room. Her presence was warm, vibrant, and unforgettable. Her light will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Estelle Russell, and brother, Wayne Russell, and the father of her children, Fred Long. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Freda Ayers, Jason Russell, Shawn Russell (Shellie), Megan Russell, and Caleb Russell (Adessa); grandchildren: Kylie Ayers, Emma Russell, Seth Russell, Kaydence Russell, Brantley Russell, Mason Russell, Haylee Russell, and Taylor Russell; one bonus grandson, Lukas Webb; one great-grandchild, Eden Russell; sisters: Kathy Roark, Linda Russell, and Lisa Edens; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Holding Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. for visitation (6066 Dr. Thomas Walker Rd., Rose Hill, VA). The funeral service will be conducted following the visitation in the funeral home’s chapel with Brother Branson and Eric Scott officiating. Special music will be provided by Bambi Chadwell. Her burial will follow in the Brooks Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: David Crumley, Shawn Russell, Caleb Russell, Jason Russell, Mason Russell, Seth Russell, Honorary pallbearers will be Brantley Russell, Justin Roark, Ryan Clonce, and Michael Riebe.
